On January 31, 1997, George Lucas released Star Wars: Special Edition. It quickly became the first movie of 1997 to gross more than $100 million at the box-office. This was an amazing feat considering that it is 20 years old! It was followed by Special Editions of The Empire Strikes Back on February 21, 1997, and Return of the Jedi on March 14, 1997. All included previously unreleased footage, updated special effects and THX enhanced sound. Listed below are a few images showcasing the addition scenes and enhanced effects for the Star Wars Trilogy: Special Editions.
